British Canoeing introduced Personal Performance Awards in January 2019 – Paddle Start, Paddle Discover, Paddle Explore. The awards are designed to be relevant to the individual paddler’s goals, and the environment they paddle in. Paddle Explore is our standard for peer paddling – at this level the paddler will be able to enjoy our paddling trips safely, and support other paddler in the event of an incident. The explore award assessment checklist is below.
OLD BC Star Awards Info (not used since January 2019)
In January 2019 British Canoeing moved from ‘Star’ awards to ‘Personal Performance Awards’ – this reflects the shift to individual padler centric coaching.
The information from the old star system below is offered as an additional resource for those who want to develop skills but maybe unsure of what they want to develop. These can be used as a checklist or simply a discussion document to talk through with your coach.
The old awards was broken down into progressive skills awards – 1 Star, 2 Star and 3 Star – and a broader Open Canoe Proficiency award covering broader skills, gear, group skills etc.
